1Do i need a license to hire a boat?

No, you don't need a boat license to hire a boat. Our boat rentals come with a 30-60HP and a back-up (second) 5-7HP outboard engine which means you can safely drive them yourself. Our staff will explain how to steer the boat, use the anchor, switch one the back-up engine, how to change the fuel tanks and all safety means so you have nothing to worry about.

Please note that all of our boats come with a GPS tracker so in the unfortunate case of an emergency we know where you are!

2Can I cruise around Zakynthos on my own?

For safety reasons we don't allow anybody to self-drive a boat around the whole island unless they provide us with boat driving license. Unfortunately the weather around the West coast gets really rough at times and the phone signal is poor around that area, so we have decided this isn't the best idea if you are not very experienced with these conditions. Remember that safety always comes first!

3Do I need insurance?

In all of our guided private tours you will be fully insured! Your safety is our top priority so before setting off, full safety explanation will be given. All of our boats are in exceptional condition and very well maintained with regular safety checks. Our captains & tour guides are well trained, have years of experience, passion for their work and excellent local knowledge and they are at your disposal to answer any questions. Please note that If you choose to rent a boat, our insurance will not fully cover you, so you will be given a 3rd party insurance instead!

4Can i book online?

You can use our website's booking form to send your request for the desired tour or boat rental. We will contact you shortly after receiving your request to confirm availability. You can also book by email ( or at our Facebook page ( by personal message.

5Can i book by phone?

6What if I need to cancel?

We understand that sometimes your plans change! In the unfortunate event that you do need to cancel your arranged excursion, our cancellation policy is as follows:

• When notifying us up to five days before your scheduled excursion, you will be entitled to a full refund of your deposit.

• If notifying us anytime after five days before your scheduled excursion, we unfortunately will not be able to refund your deposit due to ticket resales. We will however do our best to reschedule your excursion to a time and date which better suits you.

7What if the weather is bad?

Even Zakynthos has its rainy days! Here at Al Mar we put safety first, so if the weather does not allow us to set sail we will ensure that we notify you as soon as possible. We kindly ask you to provide your phone number so we can contact you. In these circumstances we will work with you to rearrange your booking. If this is not possible, you will be entitled to a full refund of your deposit.

8Is smoking allowed on the boats?

While the speedboats are sailing (moving) smoking is forbidden for safety reasons. If you feel like lightning a cigarette all you have to do is ask your skipper to stop the speedboat. When the speedboat is anchored (not moving) smoking is allowed as long as environmental rules are respected.

Please note that when you hire a yacht, smoking is allowed only outdoors.

9Is there music on board?

All the speedboats and yachts we use for our private tours are fully equipped with wireless Bluetooth music players so that you can connect straight to your phone and enjoy your favorite music along the way. The music player also connects via AUX and USB.

Please note that when you choose to rent a boat, you should let us know you are a music lover because not all rental boats carry a music system.

10What is your policy on inappropriate conduct?

We prioritize the safety of all passengers and crew. Therefore, we reserve the right to refuse service to any individual who is thought to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs and whose behavior, language or condition could pose a threat or discomfort to the other passengers or the crew, or cause damage to the boat. No refund will be given for services not carried out because of the above-mentioned reasons. Moreover, any damages incurred to the boat due to the fault of the passenger will be charged accordingly.
